Wordpress Theme: IAMWW W2 DnD

Built from the original IAMWW w2 WordPress theme. w2 DnD is still built on a grid layout, with a white, gray and blue color scheme. However, where this theme differs is the installation of the theme. Specific plugins and editing the PHP / HTML are no longer required. The theme is completely “Drag n’ Drop.” Hence the name, DnD.

Features:

  • Fixed width with an overall width of 920px.
  • Widget ready.
  • Horizontal top navigation.
  • A grid based layout with one right-hand sidebar that also contains two smaller sub-sidebars.
  • A JavaScript sliding drawer or shelf for browsing categories.
  • An about me or about site blurb at the top of the sidebar that is only displayed on the home page.
  • Includes an archives template page.
  • Compatible with WordPress 2.0+.
  • There is no options page with this theme.
  • No plugins are required.
  • Validates as (X)HTML and CSS.

  1. hey,perfect!

  2. Hello Akuii. Let me know if you have any suggestions or issues with the theme.

  3. Hey, thanks for the msg and good job. I like the large post title. That always get my attention :). I’ll try to give this theme a test run by late today or tomorrow.

  4. Hello Small Potato and thanks for your comment and your time. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

  5. Will - I just posted your theme on Wpdesigner.

  6. Thanks Small Potato, that’s awesome!

  7. Edelkind

    There are some misstakes in your xhtml code which is not wellformed.

    in functions.php - w_ShowAbout:
    1 opening p-tag, but 2 closing p-tags …

    sidebar.php:
    the functions wp_register() and wp_meta() should not be wrapped in li-tags (these tags are part of the output)

    the “syndication” block begins with an li (li id=”rsslinks”) which is not closed.

    The “if (function_exists(’get_flickrRSS’)) {” condition should be ended outside of the li element. If this function does not exist, ul and li are not opened - but closed.

  8. I’ll check out this version, thanks. The DnD widget support may be enough for me to switch over to this.

    Do you anticipate this version taking over the original IAMWW theme, or do you see maintaining both in the future?

  9. Thank you for pointing out my mistakes Edelkind. I will fix those and the inline css that Small Potato pointed out and make a new release soon.

  10. @Todd - Wait for me to update this theme if you are looking to upgrade or switch to the DnD branch. As Edelkind mentioned, I made some mistakes that caused the xhtml to be malformed. I will correct this and release a new version by the end of the week.

    The latest version of the original IAMWW w2 theme does support widgets. However, the issues in Edelkind pointed out may be present in the sidebar of that version as well. The biggest difference in the original version and the DnD is the required plugins and editing of the the PHP.

    I make a few more improvements to the original w2 in the future. I do not expect any of the changes would be huge though. I will more than likely move on to some completely different themes for release. However, please let me know if you have any suggestions or ideas.

  11. awesome theme. I wanna use it for my new site.

  12. Thanks Jenny. Let me know when you get the theme up and running on your new site. I would love to have a look.

  13. Tory

    Think i posted my comment in the wrong place. THIS THEME IS THE BEST. Will - Wonderful Job. I look froward to the new release.

  14. No worries and thanks for the compliment Tory. I really like what you have done with the theme on your site. The red really mixes well. Much better than a pure RED.

  15. Thanks for the theme! I just installed it on my site: http://www.expressions.be

  16. Hello Gaetano! You’re welcome for the theme. I like the changes you have made with the color scheme for your site.

  17. Thanks to your stylesheet, one color code and the whole scheme is renewed ;-) I just added a color photo at the top. I must say I enjoy your work a lot!

  18. hi again. i need you help? my “continue reading” link can’t be found so with the rest of my post. also the title of the post links to the archives page instead of that post’s page. how do i make the recent posts, recent shorts, recent comments appear in the sidebar? also how do i make an image inserted in the post appear even in the index page? tnx. my site url is: boholrepublic.com

  19. hi, i think i’m starting to figure it out. except that the ‘continue reading’ links to the archives page. i’ll see if i still have the patience for d-i-y. =)

  20. Hello liza. It looks like you have figured things out on the site. Was the issue with the links in the theme or with your set up?

    An it looks like you found how to insert images in the home page.

    Since you are using w2 DnD, the recent posts will show up automatically on all pages except for the home page. You can also use a widget from the WordPress admin to show your recent comments. The recent shorts on this site and the original w2 theme are controlled by the PHP in the template files for index.php and sidebar.php.

    Let me know if you have any other questions.

  21. Dear will, I look forward to his theme of change, when you produce an even better than W2 theme.

  22. Hi Will! I really like this theme and would like to use it in a new blog. I’d like to know if it’s possible to make it show the whole post in the main page (so that images will appear there too).
    I don’t know enough to figure these things out by myself :-)

  23. Thank you Parandroid. I really hope I can create a theme better than w2. It’s possible. I just need to find the time to do it. I have plenty of ideas bouncing around in my head!

  24. Hello Maria. I am glad you like the theme and want to use it.

    You can make these changes to the home page posts by editing one line of code in the index.php file. You will need to change the code in line 7.

    From:

    <?php the_content_rss('Continue Reading...', FALSE, '', 50); ?>

    To:

    <?php the_content('Continue Reading...'); ?>

    This will display the full post. This will make the post display Continue Reading… at the point where any <!-- more --> tags have been used in your posts.

    Let me know if you have any other questions.

  25. you are an amazing designer, keep up the great work. i love the minimalist feel

  26. Thank you Rashid! I am not sure how much of a designer I am quite yet, but I am learning as much as possible. I really love minimalistic site designs that a spacious and easy to read.

  27. Hi Will! I’m implementing w2 DnD and cannot seem to figure out how to add a photo to the “About” area above the sidebar. Please help!

  28. thanks much will! my site’s starting to become like a real site now…

  29. @AJWILSON - The About section is edited in the “About Yourself” section of your user profile. I tested it and images can not be added to the field. Therefore, editing the about section in the sidebar.php will be your best bet. You will have to remove the PHP used to pull the info from admin and replace it with your about text and image.

  30. You are very welcome Liza! You site looks awesome with the pink additions.

  31. Hey there I’m absolutely loving the theme! I’m just in the process of setting up my site with it but there’s just one thing I can’t quite get my head around, as Maria was asking above about changing line 7 of the index.php file, I changed mine so I could show more of my posts and images etc but nothing appears to have changed, I can’t quite understand why!? Any help would be much appreciated!

  32. Oh so sorry figured it out! I’ve been sitting here for over an hour trying to work it out and I was working on exactly the same file in a diff. directory! Eek, so sorry!

  33. Hello Sarah. I am glad you were able to get the theme working and you enjoy it. Let me know if you have any other questions or issues.

  34. I LOVE! this theme. One question, I’d like to get my content and sidebar moved up a bit towards the header and move the search form to be before and aligned with the RSS icon at top so it would be essentially: search input box search button RSS ICON with the rss icon being centered up and down with the search button.I am pretty limited in my coding, if anyone can point me in the direction of how to do this I would really appreciate it.Site: http://eleven22.org. Thanks!

  35. Hello, I love this theme! I have two questions I was wondering if the code gurus could answer. My thanks in advance.

    First, how can I reduce the space between the header and the main content area/sidebar. As you can see from my site I have eliminated the search bar.

    Second, how can I put the Search bar directly to the left of the RSS icon in the header? I’d like the search box, button and rss icon to align horizontally if possible.

    Thanks so much for your hard work!
    Steve

  36. Hello stvlange. I am glad that you like the theme.

    I will shoot you an email to try and help on the changes you want to make.

  37. Zach

    Hey i first want to start off by saying i love your theme, it’s perfect for what I wanted.

    I do however have one question, how do I make it so the whole post shows on the home page, not just the first 4 lines?

  38. Hi Zach. I appreciate your compliment.

    You can make these changes to the home page posts by editing one line of code in the index.php file.

    You will need to change the code in line 7 from:

    <?php the_content_rss('Continue Reading...', FALSE, '', 50); ?>

    to

    <?php the_content('Continue Reading...'); ?>

    This will display the full post. This will make the post display Continue Reading… at the point where any tags have been used in your posts.

    Let me know if you have any other questions.

  39. Hi.

    I love the theme but I am having a minor issue. I’m running it at http://www.dailysausage.net, and it is working well for the most part. However, when I click through to a blog post the sidebar is showing up below the entry. Any ideas on how to change this?

    Thanks,

    DS

  40. Hello DS. First off, it appears the theme package you uploaded and installed is in a IAMWW DnD directory. I downloaded the packages available on this site and they should have produced a w2_dnd or a IAMWW_w2 theme root directory.

    So the first issue is that the way you have it installed (any edits you have made) created the url http://dailysausage.net/wp-content/themes/IAMWW DnD/js/toggle.js to access the JavaScript file - toggle.js. This url presents an 404 error that the file was not found. I am not sure that this is causing the layout issue, but without things being the way I built the theme it is hard to diagnose.

    Did you make any other edits to the theme aside from the register button in the navigation bar and the sitemeter link in the sidebar?

  41. Hugh

    Hi,

    I really like this theme, but I wanna know how can I indent the sub-category? I didn’t use the widget and modify the argument for wp_list_cats, but nothing happens. I guess something need to be added into style.css, can you show me how to do it?

    Thank you :)

  42. I’m having display issues on blog posts only with this Theme. Granted, I’ve done extensive mods to it, but this just baffles me.

    All main pages, category pages, static pages and search results pages work fine across all browsers and platforms, however, blog posts aren’t displaying properly on PC’s with FireFox or IE.

    I’m suspecting an extra tag or something, but I’m not sure.

    See… this works fine:
    http://www.feedthehabit.com

    But, this makes the sidebar bump down to the bottom of the post and in FF, there’s no white bg.
    http://www.feedthehabit.com/skiing/2007-mountain-hardwear-huckster-backcountry-ski-pack/

    It all works great in FF for Mac.

    Thanks!

  43. I just uploaded a fresh version of this theme to another blog and it does the same thing in Safari (Mac), IE and FF (PC):

    http://gearminer.com/blog/yakima-high-roller-upright-mountain-bike-roof-rack/

    I can’t believe that it does this out of the box. I know it’s gratis, but I’ve been using this theme on FeedTheHabit.com for nearly a month and since it works perfectly on FF for Mac, I assumed it worked elsewhere… I was bummed the other day to find this out.

    So, most of my visitors are getting a poor experience. any ideas?

  44. I’ve isolated the bug to the Comments template. I just replaced my modified one with the default one included with the them and it still hoses it. Until I figure this out, I’m just going to disable comments.

    Was this theme just not tested across all browsers? I’m a little disappointed that I’m finding this out, but I’m sure all of us can figure out what’s wrong.

  45. Thanks Hugh.

    You would need to edit the css file. Can you point me to a URL that I can look at with the theme running? I will see what I can do to help you out.

  46. @Hugh - I do not see that you currently have any sub categories on your site. However, once you get that set up, you should be able to add something similar to the following line to the style.css file to get the indention you are looking for.

    #sidebar #categories ul li ul li {margin-left: .5em;}

    Let me know if you have any other questions.

  47. @Jason to answer all of your questions:

    You may have fixed these issues by now since you have comments enabled again and I do not see any issues on you site with Firefox (Mac & PC), Safari (Mac) or IE7 on Windows.

    I have not had any of these complaints from other users. You have done a lot of modifications to the theme did any of those changes mess up the layout?

    Was this theme just not tested across all browsers? I’m a little disappointed that I’m finding this out, but I’m sure all of us can figure out what’s wrong.

    I assure you all of my themes are tested across all of the browsers you have mentioned. Otherwise, I would not release them.

    Like you said this theme is free and the support of the theme is free and done in my spare time. However, I do my best to make decent themes and support them.

    While you have made a lot of modifications to the theme, you have already done the one thing I asked people not to do by removing the links to IAMWW and Upstart Blogger. This along with the tone of your comments only make me feel less than obliged to help you out on your modified version of my theme. Leaving those links could actually help you.

  48. Hi, I really love your themes, the design, and the sliding drawer!! :D I just downloaded it and I’m trying to set it on my new blog.

    I have the same question as Hugh with the indent sub-categories. With your advice, I tried to add this line #sidebar #categories ul li ul li {margin-left: .5em;}. But it still didn’t work, so can you help me please. Thanks ^^

  49. Thanks June.

    I found the solution to both yours and Hugh’s questions.

    First you need to edit your categories sidebar widget in the WordPress admin -> Presentation -> widgets. Make sure to check the show hierarchy option. Save the widget configuration.

    Next add the following line of code to the style.css file.

    div#sidebar #categories ul li ul.children li a {
    margin-left: 15px;
    }

    That would indent the sub-categories by 15 pixels. You can adjust that number as needed.

    Let me know if you have any other questions.

  50. I’ve checked the hierarchy and I’ve added the line, but still nothing changed. - -” Do I have to change anything else in the php file?

  51. I am able to see the indentions on your site. Delete your browser’s cache and see if that changes anything. No edits in the php should be required.

  52. Hi Will, I’m able to see the indentations now. Thank you very much for your help. I’m really happy that I chose your theme!! :D

  53. Courtney

    Hi Will, I love your theme! My site is in maintenance mode since I’m still building (well, re-building) it, but hopefully you can still help? Basically, I have a post where the image is aligned left, so the text wraps on the right. That’s all good, but since the image extends down further than the text, the following post is bumped up and wrapping around the image, too. I think this has something to do with clearing the float and I need to stick some clear:both code in somewhere, but I’m not sure exactly what or where. (If you need to see the site to find out what’s wrong, I can come ask again when I actually have it up.) Thanks!!

  54. You are welcome June. I am glad I was able to help and thanks for using my theme!

  55. Hello Courtney. I am glad that you enjoy the theme.

    It would be much easier for me yo help out if I was able to see the site. Can you take it out of maintenance mode for a little while so I can have a look?

  56. Sorry to sound a bit terse in my posts, but I was pretty disappointed to see this flaw in the out-of-the-box installation I did after spending hours trying to track it down. I’m sure you can understand… nobody likes to troubleshoot thousands of lines of code only to find out that it was broken in the base, unmodified version.

    I ended up using another person’s comments code and now it works great.

    Your theme has served as a great starting point for me and I appreciate your work.

  57. Courtney

    Thanks for replying Will, I’m actually very close to finishing my site so it will be up in the next couple of days, I’ll let you know when so you can take a look. Thanks!

  58. Jason - I do understand your frustration. However, I can not find the issue you are referring to in the original code. I can not replicate in Firefox or Internet Explorer 7 on Windows.

    If you can point out a spot where the theme is broken on the demo site, I would be more than happy to fix it and put out a new release. This would be a great help to me and all users of the theme.

  59. @ Courtney - You’re welcome. Just let me know if you are still having issues once you have the site up.

  60. http://gearminer.com/blog/yakima-high-roller-upright-mountain-bike-roof-rack/

    That’s an out of the box installation of the theme. I don’t have access to a PC right now, but on Safari, the sidebar gets pushed below the content and comments section, which is the same behavior I saw on FF and IE for PC. Let me know if you’re seeing what I’m seeing.

    I’ll leave it like that for a little while so you can see it. Your theme is great dude… I really like it, but this just got me frustrated.

  61. “I see. I see.” said the blind man. The issue is that the comments div is not closed when the user has to be registered and logged in to comment on a post. This issue was left over from the Upstart Blogger Minim code.

    I have corrected the file and sent you a copy of the file via email. Let me know if that works better for you.

    I will also updated the IAMWW w2 DnD and the IAMWW w2 files hosted here on the site soon.

  62. Thanks! Glad you saw it. I knew it was a missing or something, but I just didn’t have the desire to dig into it again.

    Glad to do a little Q/A for you to get this thing nailed down. Thanks!

  63. Thanks for theme

  64. You’re welcome Alen.

  65. Will - as you know I love this theme, the one thing I would love to add to it is some form of typographic control to add nice right justification. Anything that comes to mind?

  66. stvlange - I will shoot you an email to see if I can assist. Dependant upon what you want to align it could be as simple as text-align:right?

  67. I’m having issues embedding videos into my posts. When I do, it breaks the formatting and pushes the sidebar to the bottom of the page. Is this a Wordpress or a theme bug?

    I’ve used the Embed Video with Link plugin on other Wordpress installs, but for some reason, I can’t get that plugin to work. Wordpress doesn’t recognize it’s there in the Plugins folder… it’s weird.

    However, is it possible to simply embed videos without using the above plugin?

  68. Sorry to post before exploring all options… This plugin works just dandy:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/vipers-video-quicktags/page/3#post-1329

    You can see it working here:

    http://www.feedthehabit.com/skiing/tgr-lost-and-found/

    Yeehaw!!!

  69. Hello Will!

    I have followed your instructions to show the full post with images on the home page. But now I want to be able to split these post when these are very long.

    Witch tag I need to put on my posts to show the text: Continue Reading.

    I have tried with but doesn’t works.

    Regards,
    Javier

  70. Will! forget what I have said in my last comment. Now it works! Thanks for your work!

  71. Hi Javier - I am glad that you were able to resolve the issue. Let me know if you have any other issues.

  72. Hi Will

    Thanks for your great job. I’m using your theme in my blog (in Spanish), so you have yet another language added to the collection!

    I was just wondering if it’s possible to show the full content of only the first post(including images), keeping all the other posts in the short form. This is different from the recommendation you gave us before, which changes all the posts in the home page.

    Thanks a lot!

    Luis

  73. Hello Luis and thank you for your comment.

    What you ask is possible. However, it is not necessarily a quick quick fix or change. Basically you would need to create two loops to display 1. the first article and how you want it to display and 2. the remaining articles and how they should display. Check out this section to get a run through of some of the options with multiple loops.

  74. Thanks Will. It doesn’t look too difficult but I still need to ask some of my geeky-friends just in case!

    all the best,

    Luis

  75. Luis - If you have any questions once you get started shoot me an email.

  76. Hey Will,

    Just want to say this is my favourite Wordpress theme and I’m going to use it for the conversion of my curent “handwritten” site to a Wordpress blog. I’ve been modifying the colours and such to match the visual theme of my current site. Check it out:

    My Current Site

    My site IAMWW-w2-DnD Style

  77. Wait, Wordpress conversion is here. Sorry.

  78. Hello Chris. I am glad you link the theme and have made it your own with the color changes. WordPress should be much easier to work with than the hand-coded version of your site. Let me know if you have any issues with the theme.

  79. Thanks a lot for the theme, I do like the look a lot.

    I did a default install, no customization except for the above fix to show full posts on the main page. For some reason my links and images are broken on the main page, but not on the actual post pages. Any idea why?

  80. You’re welcome Court.

    I will shoot you an email to help out. It looks like something is messed up in your edits.

  81. Will- I just installed w2DnD and the sidebar doesn’t look the same as in the picture above. The “By Date” title over the calendar archive is missing, as is the drop-down archives menu. I redownloaded the files and uploaded the sidebar.php file again, but no fix. Any idea what I need to do to fix this?

  82. Hello Chris.

    The settings you are looking for are controlled by the widgets. When positioning your widgets, you also have the option to give them a title and options (dependent on the widget).

  83. Thanks for the quick response, I got that fixed right away!

    I have another issue now, if you don’t mind another question or two. Is there a way to display the links in the post excerpts that are shown on the index page? Also, how can I remove the ‘…’ that is displayed at the end of posts that are cut? Thanks again!

  84. Chris- Your best bet would be to use the the_excerpt Reloaded plugin, which can be customized on which HTML tags to allow, length of the excerpt (in words), “more…” link, and filtering type. This is the best plugin I have found to give you total control over your excepts.

    However, I believe you also could use the the_content template tag as long as you always use the “more” function in your posts. It just wouldn’t work automatically like using something that creates the excerpts at a certain word count for you.

  85. simon

    Hi Will,

    This is a lovely template, thank-you for the share.

    I was wondering how I can use an image instead of the text logo and also how I can remove “admin” from the main nav bar

    Thanks again Will,

    Simon

  86. Thank you Simon.

    To use an image in the header of the theme rather than the text, you could just replace line 23 of the header.php with the code required it insert your image. However, this would remove the h1 title of your site.

    Lorelle has a write-up explaining how to do this without remove the h1.

    The “admin” button is only visible if you are logged into your WordPress admin. If you would like to remove the link, you should only have to remove the line of code < ?php wp_register('<li>','</li>'); ?> from line 26 of the header.php file.

  87. simon

    Will,

    Thank-you very much for your prompt and detailed reply. Much appreciated

    If only support for all themes was like this :)
    Best of luck to you Will. Look forward to using your other themes too

    Simon

  88. Thanks for such a great compliment Simon!

  89. Alex

    Hi Will! IAMWW w2 DnD is a great theme!
    I have a question for you: how do I make an image inserted in the post appear even in the index page? thank you.

  90. Alex

    Sorry! It works now! :) Thx

  91. Alex

    Hi Will!
    I have another issue now :) how can I show the content of “function w_ShowAbout()” (in functions.php) in every single post page?
    thx

  92. Alex - I am glad that you were able to resolve the first issue. To use the Show About on all of your pages, remove line 4 -< ?php if (is_home()) { ?> and line 8 - < ?php } ?> from the functions.php file to leave the unordered list.

  93. Alex

    Thanks for your reply, but in my “functions.php” is not present the line

    Is it possible? How can I solve the problem?

  94. Alex

    Thanks for your reply, but in my “functions.php” is not present the line “”

    How can I solve the problem?

  95. Sara

    Hi Will,
    Thanks for sharing this amazing theme! I love the browse category functionality and am wondering if perhaps there is a way to use the same functionality to display parent and sub pages in the header nav. Please let me know if this is something you have explored and if this is possible. I have coding experience with HTML and CSS but no PHP so am clueless as to where to start.

    Thanks for your help!

  96. Sara - I am sure that you could alter the theme to do what you are looking for. However, I can’t think of an easy way to do it. You can find the php you will have to alter in the < ?php wp_list_pages(); ?> template tag of the header.php file. You can find an example of the code you will need to use here. Then you would need to edit the css files to display the subpage links they way you want.

  97. Hi,
    I just wanted to congratulate you on making what I think is the best Wordpress theme out there… well from what I have seen. I must say though that I have one thing that I would like to alter but I’m not too good with these things…

    I would like it so instead of showing just part of the story on the main page it shows one full article (the most recent post) and then the rest of the articles in the manner they are now.

    So I want it to be when you visit the blog the most recent post is shown as a full story while all the other ones are trimmed down.

    Hopefully this is a pretty easy fix, but either way I think I’ll be sticking with the theme.

    THANKS!

  98. Hey Will. Chris from French for Grapefruit again.

    I’ve upgraded to Wordpress 2.3, and I’ve also decided to add an Archives Page to the site.

    However, I get this error visibly appearing on the top of the page when I select the Archive template to use on the page:

    WordPress database error: [Table 'fre0727108410295.wp_categories' doesn't exist]
    SELECT COUNT(*) FROM wp_categories

    Link

    I’ve looked at th coding of the archive-page.php file and I know that removing this line of code…

    $numcats = $wpdb->get_var(”SELECT COUNT(*) FROM $wpdb->categories”);if (0 < $numcats) $numcats = number_format($numcats);

    …will remove the error. The problem is that either way it’s not counting the categories and I’d like it to so the page looks complete and doesn’t give me the error. Unfortunately I’m not smart enough to do it myself.

    Any suggestions?

  99. bob

    A few others asked about having an image show in the front page summary of a post. Then they said they figured it out, without telling how. Can you tell me how?

  100. Hey Chris. I didn’t think to check the archives page template file after the update to WP 2.3. WP 2.3 removed the categories table and move the categories and tags into one “terms” table.

    To fix the error you can change the code you listed to:

    $numcats = $wpdb->get_var(”SELECT COUNT(*) FROM $wpdb->terms”);if (0 < $numcats) $numcats = number_format($numcats);

    However, the count produced is going to be the total number of categories and tags in WordPress. But, this will remove the error.

    I can fix these errors and release a bug fix this weekend. In the next release I will probably remove these counts from the archives page.

  101. Hi Bob, You will probably want to go the route described in this comment. This comment may help as well.

    Let me know if you have any other questions.

  102. @ Peter - Thank you for the comments on the theme.

    You could create two loops on the homepage to do what you are looking for with one post showing full content and the others excepts.

    You can find more information on the WordPress loop and some examples in the WordPress Codex.

    Let me know if you decide to dive into it and have any questions.

  103. Hi,

    We’re using this theme one one of our web properties. you can find the theme live over at http://www.kicksjunkie.com.

    It’s an awesome theme and works perfectly for what I need it for.

    Thanks for releasing such a great theme

  104. I love it!! :D
    Thanks a lot, this was exactly what I was going to develop (well almost) thanks for saving me the time :D

  105. You are very welcome Pablo!

  106. Max

    Hey,

    do you have an FAQ for this theme? I got a question: why are the images in posts not shown on the homesite?

    and how to change it?

    thanks

    Max

  107. @ Max - I do not currently have an FAQ for this theme. That is a good idea though, this question has been asked and answered many times in the comments here.

    Images are not shown because only excepts of the articles are displayed. Check out the method described in this comment to alter that.

    Let me know if you have any other questions.

  108. Max

    oh sorry i didnt read all the comments before

  109. No worries Max. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  110. Hey Will. Chris from French for Grapefruit with yet another question.

    I want to change the styling of the hover on the links to display a simple underline as opposed to the colour-changing highlighting that’s is the theme’s default.

    Whenever I change the CSS from this:

    a:hover {
    background : white;
    color : black;
    text-decoration : none;
    outline : 0;
    }

    To this:

    a:hover {
    text-decoration : underline;
    }

    It will underline some links of my links but not others when I hover over them. I’m pretty good with CSS but I cannot for the life of me figure this one out.

  111. Hey Chris. That’s odd. I just made the changes you suggested using Firebug in Firefox and it appears to work fine.

    Can you make the changes above and shoot me an email once you have them in place so I can have a look at what you are talking about?

  112. john

    Hi Will,

    Thanks for the awesome theme, two questions though:

    1) How do I change the size of the font for the content of my posts? Just want to make it a little smaller.

    2) You’ve already explained how to make it so you display the entire post on the front page, but how do I display the entire post when browsing archives and in search results?

    Thanks again
    John

  113. Chris,I found the issue. The reason I wasn’t seeing what you were was that you had visited those links and I had not. The answer lies in the CSS for the visited links.

    style.css - line 39

    a:visited{
    outline-color:invert;
    outline-style:none;
    outline-width:0pt;
    text-decoration:none;
    }

    Add this to the CSS after the a:visited:

    a:visited:hover{
    text-decoration:underline;
    }

  114. Hello John. You’re welcome for the theme. To answer your questions:

    1) Edit the style.css file around line 221. You will need to add a font size, similar to the following.

    .post {
    font-size:.9em;
    margin-bottom:2em;
    }

    2) The same code as what needs to be edited in the home page to show the content would need to be added to the archive.php, category.php and search.php files.

  115. The template works just perfect, But my only problem is that when I modified it to looks better on Arabic blog, every thing works, only I couldn’t align Browser button to left can you help me please another thing is that I want to change the only fonts of my post and my Categories to Tahoma what can I do.
    You can check the problems I’m facing on my weblog
    thanks

  116. Muh’d M. Mansour - The URL that you gave in your comment points to a 404 error. Is there a different URL for your site that you would like me to take a look at?

  117. well, I’m really sorry I miss typed, its blog.triplem.net.ms or http://www.triplem.host.sk
    thanks

  118. HI. Where I can find the theme like your website?
    Thanks

  119. finl - If you are referring to the theme currently used on this site, it is a modified version of Moo-Point.

  120. For anyone subscribed to this comment thread, the IAMWW w2 DnD WordPress theme has been updated - IAMWW w2 DnD v0.75 “Validation” Released.

  121. Migrated from moo-point to w2_dnd without having made needed progress in either. One reason is that the more explicit css is easier for me to understand. But the major hurdle is that I have four categories for my content and I want a separate header (with sub-header) for each. That does not relate to either theme - it is a php question and misplaced here, but the time for help has come.

    Basically, in the header, there has to be a conditional of the type “if category id = 4 then use page_4, else if category id = 6 then use page_6 (etc) else use index (if there is no match. Could I impose on you to help?

    No platitude here, but between you and Lorelle, the bar has been set about as high as it can go. I sure hope you don’t burn out - either one of you.

  122. hi, how can i use tag in the posts, i whant to preview them on the bottom of the post

    thanks

  123. @eberhard weber - If I am understanding you correctly this can be done in a relatively simple manner.

    If you want a page that is used only for category ID = 4, you can create a category-4.php file in the root of the theme directory. Then copy the index.php contents into the file and edit it to display however you would like.

    Then do the same for category id = 6; create a category-6.php file. Continue this until you have created all of the category-#.php files needed to process the sub-header links.

    Once that is complete, edit the header.php file to add the sub-header linking to those category pages.

    A little background: When a visitor goes to the category id 4 section of your site, WordPress will first look for a category-4.php file. If the category 4 file isn’t there then it looks for a category.php. If that is not found it then looks for index.php. It will process and display the first file found in that sequence. This diagram can help explain how files are processed by WordPress.

    If you are looking to go the route of using conditional statements, you will need to bone up on the WordPress conditional template tags.

    I hope that helps. ;-)

  124. @Аlen - You would need to edit the pages where you want to view the tags in the post to add something like the code below.

    <div class="post-tags"><?php the_tags(); ?></div>

    Here is a page all about the WordPress “tags” template tags.

    I hope to release another version of the theme soon for WordPress 2.3+ with the tags displayed on the posts.

  125. thanks Will

  126. No Problem Alen.

  127. Thank you Will - you are most generous. I read about the hierarchy but failed to recognize that it works as you described.

  128. Let me know if you have any other questions on it once you get started Eberhard.

  129. Hi Will,
    Great theme. I’m using it in my site. I’m new to Wordpress so I hope you don’t mind the following questions (which I think might be basic) :-)
    1. How do I add the “Read More” link at the end of the summary. For some reason, it is not appearing in my blog.

    2. A database error appears in the “Some posts that may be related” section. How do I solve this?

    3. I would like to change the font type of the blog title and the post headline but retain the current font type (Arial?) for the rest of the blog.

    Much thanks. And more power to you :-)

  130. Hi Will,
    I figured out how to do #3 above but still clueless about the first two. Thanks :-)

  131. Bill - To add the “Read More” link to your posts, edit the index.php file to include the following line of code in side the post tag.

    <?php the_content_rss('Read More...', FALSE, '', 100); ?>

    It appears that you still need to run the indexing for the Related Posts plugin to resolve the database error. In your WP admin, go to Plugins -> Related Posts Options and run the script for the SQL Index Table Setup.

  132. Thanks Will :-) That code is in there actually. What I wish really is to have a “Read More” or a “Continue Reading” link at the end of the summary so that a reader would click at it instead of going back up to click the title to open the whole post. Like chris’s (http://www.chrismlindsey.com/) for instance. Sorry for not being clear.

    Hope you won’t mind another question: How do I add links in the navigation bar at the top?

    Thanks again. And more power to you.

  133. Bill - That code may already be in there but it appears there may have been a syntax issue or copy/paste issue in the version of the theme you are using. Try to type out that line of code in the theme rather than copy and pasting. The read more link is working fine on my demo site.

    The links in the navigation bar are controlled by the pages you create in your WordPress administration. That can be changed in the header.php file.

  134. Much thanks. I’ll do as you suggest.

  135. Hi Will, that’s me again.
    I want to put ‘tags cloud’ and ‘recent comments’
    on sidebar. Now I do it by ‘widgets’ setting, and theme style is not look correctly.
    How can I do it on 2.3.1 wp.
    I already put tags on posts, like you sad me.

  136. Alen - The tag cloud and recent comments widgets appear to display fine on your site. Can you be more specific about the issue?

  137. But if look on the fonts of the headers of widgets, they are not on the some style like ‘about box’, and that is, because I used ‘widgets’, from ‘widgets’ setting, and not from your default sidebar.

  138. Alen - The quick fix would be to edit line 98 of the style.css file to be:

    h2.widgettitle {
    border-bottom:1px solid silver;
    color:#34353E;
    font-size:1.2em;
    font-weight:bold;
    letter-spacing:0.2em;
    margin-bottom:0.2em;
    margin-top:2.5em;
    text-transform:uppercase;
    }

  139. Now it’s ok :), thanks a lot!

  140. *p.s. If you want you theme in Russian , let me know ;)

  141. No problem Alen. I am not sure that I would be able to use the theme in Russian, but your readers might!

  142. Hi,

    Thanks for creating this stunning theme, its perfect for what IVe been looking for. Superb!.

    I was wondering though how you manage to get the little Author image to appear like on yours when an author leaves a comment?

    Thanks

    Martin

  143. Hi Martin, You’re welcome for the theme. The Author image shown in the comments on this site are created with CSS and the dynamically generated classes associated with each comment on this theme. This is one of the great things about using Sandbox to create a theme.

    In this case, Sandbox assigns every comment I make a class of bypostauthor. I then applied the AUTHOR image as a background to the comment’s permalink.

    You could add this functionality to the w2 DnD theme using a plugin like Author Highlight or Highlight Author Comments. They may still require some editing of the comments.php file. There may be other plugins out there with the same functionality.

    Hope that helps!

  144. Hi Will,

    I’m a Chinese blogger, and i like this theme on the first sight. Thank you for your great work on the theme.
    I’v translated the theme to Chinese by generating the po/mo file with the Poedit tool. You can have a look at my blog as a demo at farthinker.cn. I think it will be helpful if someone else want to translate it to other language.
    If you are interested in my localization work on the theme, please contact me via my gmail:farthinker@gmail.com.
    BTW, I also sent you a email using the contact form of this blog. Thanks again:)

  145. Thanks for the information FarThinker. I am sure that any Chinese blogger that would like to use the theme will be very grateful.

  146. hi Will, thanks for such a fantastic theme.

    I han an issue though: my site apperars well centered in the page on Firefox but on the left in IE (both 6.0 and 7.0).

    Is this correct? I mean normal? Or maybe I´m doing something wrong…

    Thanks in advance

  147. Javi - I am having a hard time determining what is causing the issue on your site. The sites layout or alignment should not change. So that is not normal or correct.

    There appears to be a lot of style elements that have been added to the site either by you or a plugin you have activated. Your site no longer validates and shows 99 errors.

    To troubleshoot, I would begin disabling plugins one by one to see if it corrects the issue. At that point, you should be able to determine what could be causing the issue. I believe something is inserting CSS that is specific only to Internet Explorer.

  148. I just uploaded the original files again and the site looks fine in IE.

    Seems that when I translated into Spanish I messed up something. Sorry to trouble you!!

    Thanksa lot.

  149. Javi - I wonder if you accidently omitted a tag or something that caused the issues in IE.

    Let me know if you have any other issues.

  150. Great Work. It was the simplicity in the theme that made me use it.

    Actually I am publishing a lot of photographs and have divided them into many categories. But when you click on any of the categories only a portion the posts are displayed and that too without any photographs. Please help me in eliminating this problem, so that photographs are shown with the post when visitors click on any category.

    Regards

  151. @Himanshu Khagta - This is due to the category archives using the except for the post body rather than the content.

    To alter this, change line 25 of the category.php theme file from:

    <?php the_content_rss('Continue Reading...', FALSE, '', 100); ?>

    to:

    <?php the_content('Continue Reading...'); ?>
  152. Thanks a Lot!!
