Some highlights include:

Option to use Markdown

The new updates also take consideration of the iPhone into account. I am just dying to get one!

You can already post text and photos from any mobile phone, but the new Tumblr interface has considered the iPhone in every aspect. Not only is the new interface a pleasure to use, but there is something absolutely magical about using the real Tumblr on an iPhone.

The new site design looks nice. However, I sort of preferred the simpler “1 page of settings” approach. While not included in the updates, there are teasers of tagging, search and comment support.

So if the WordPress Tumble-Hybrid is not your cup of tea, Tumblr may be.

What is new? In the new version, your reports have been redesigned for clarity, greater visibility of important metrics, and ease of use. Here are just a few of the features you’ll notice:

Email and export reports: Schedule or send ad-hoc personalized report emails and export reports in PDF format.

Custom Dashboard: No more digging through reports. Put all the information you need on a custom dashboard that you can email to others.

Trend and Over-time Graph: Compare time periods and select date ranges without losing sight of long term trends.

Contextual help tips: Context sensitive Help and Conversion University tips are available from every report.

The new version seems to work much better in Firefox on Mac. I had some issues with some of the graphs displaying with the previous version.

Screenshot of the new dashboard:

I have been looking for this to be upgraded for some time now.

My project list is not quite big enough yet to pay for a project manager service. However, I do have enough projects (between home and my day job) that Basecamp’s free plan was not enough. So, activeCollab was the best solution for my project management. I installed and stated using it about 3 weeks ago. Without the current need to collaborate with other companies / teams activeCollab works for me.

Yesterday, Flickr rolled out options to change the layout of your photos page and a new level of photo organization – collections. I noticed that Flickr was running extremely slow on Monday. Now it is apparent that they were implementing the new features.

To change the layout of your photo page head over to your account preferences. There are currently 6 different layouts to choose from. “Customize your Photos page so it’s a little more “you”. Choose between 18 small or 5 medium sized photos, and decide if you’d like sets, or collections, or neither in the right hand column.”

The addition of collections now adds one more level of organization to your photos. Before Tuesday, there were only two levels of photo management, photos and sets. Collections now allow you to organize your sets into similar groups. Check out my thrown together collections.

Use OpenDNS!

What is OpenDNS?

OpenDNS is a better DNS, free to all. OpenDNS uses its distributed network of DNS servers to speed up your Internet experience, increase reliability, improve security and make DNS smarter for users all over the world.

I have been using OpenDNS for a while now. It helps speed up my Internet surfing and any typos that I may make when entering urls.

Benefits of using OpenDNS?

Safer than your ISP’s DNS – OpenDNS intercepts phishing attempts. OpenDNS users are warned if they attempt to visit a phishing site.

Faster than other DNS services – OpenDNS uses an extremely large, smart cache that is geographically distributed and runs on several redundant connections. This disributed model makes the service fast and reliable.

Smarter than other DNS services too – OpenDNS fixes typos in the URLs you enter whenever possible (e.g., if you were to type in iamww.cm and hit go, OpenDNS would direct your browser to iamww.com).

OpenDNS is free to use and easily configured. Read more about OpenDNS at http://www.opendns.com/.

For digital photo editing on Windows machines, I would typically recommend Google’s Picasa. Picasa’s free, has some fairly advanced editing abilities and allows you to manage all of your digital photos from one application. On Mac’s, you can’t go wrong with Apple’s iPhoto. iPhoto comes pre-installed on Mac’s as part of the iLife suite. It’s a bit more powerful than Picasa; it can manage up to 250k photos. If you have a Mac, need RAW photo editing power and take enough photos to justify the cost, take Aperture for a spin.

With all that being said… This morning I stumbled across Picnik. Picnik is a photo editor similar to Picasa or iPhoto, except it’s web-based. It has some amazing capabilties to be beta and a browser / web-based tool.

“With Picnik you can quickly edit all your online photos from one place. It’s the easiest way on the Web to fix underexposed photos, remove red-eye, or apply effects to your photos.”

Best of all, the service is free. Within minutes I was able to import photos from my Flickr account, take a photo with my iSight, save images to Flickr and create a slideshow. Although I do not foresee giving up iPhoto or Aperture, Picnik may come in handy when I want to do a quick photo edit and upload while away from the house…
