Google Updates Analytics

Google has released a new version of the Google Analytics reporting interface.

What is new? In the new version, your reports have been redesigned for clarity, greater visibility of important metrics, and ease of use. Here are just a few of the features you’ll notice:

  • Email and export reports: Schedule or send ad-hoc personalized report emails and export reports in PDF format.
  • Custom Dashboard: No more digging through reports. Put all the information you need on a custom dashboard that you can email to others.
  • Trend and Over-time Graph: Compare time periods and select date ranges without losing sight of long term trends.
  • Contextual help tips: Context sensitive Help and Conversion University tips are available from every report.

The new version seems to work much better in Firefox on Mac. I had some issues with some of the graphs displaying with the previous version.

Flickr Updates Uploadr for Mac OS X

I was happy to see Flickr (my favorite photo sharing service) updated their Flickr Uploadr for Mac OS X to Version 2.3, a Universal Binary. The new version of Uploadr is much faster than the previous. Flickr has added options to select which types of images you are uploading (photo, screenshot, or other) and the ability to set content filters on the images (safe, moderate, and restricted). I have been looking for this to be upgraded for some time now.

Project Management - Basecamp, activeCollab, and Goplan

Derek Punsalan of 5thirtyOne has posted a great write-up on the differences and advantages in three online project management and collaboration tools. The article lays out the options for Basecamp, activeCollab, and Goplan.

My project list is not quite big enough yet to pay for a project manager service. However, I do have enough projects (between home and my day job) that Basecamp’s free plan was not enough. So, activeCollab was the best solution for my project management. I installed and stated using it about 3 weeks ago. Without the current need to collaborate with other companies / teams activeCollab works for me.

New Features on Flickr: Layouts and Collections

Yesterday, Flickr rolled out options to change the layout of your photos page and a new level of photo organization - collections. I noticed that Flickr was running extremely slow on Monday. Now it is apparent that they were implementing the new features.

Online Photo Editing Made Easy With Picnik!

For digital photo editing on Windows machines, I would typically recommend Google’s Picasa. Picasa’s free, has some fairly advanced editing abilities and allows you to manage all of your digital photos from one application. On Mac’s, you can’t go wrong with Apple’s iPhoto. iPhoto comes pre-installed on Mac’s as part of the iLife suite. It’s a bit more powerful than Picasa; it can manage up to 250k photos. If you have a Mac, need RAW photo editing power and take enough photos to justify the cost, take Aperture for a spin.
