Elgato EyeTV Hybrid

I just got an Elgato EyeTV Hybrid to go with my recently purchased Apple TV and I love it. Glenn Wolsey has posted his review of my new time saver.

I really like the fact that I can schedule recordings via the TitaTV website from anywhere.

New Office Workstation Setup

I updated my office setup with a new Westinghouse 22″ widescreen display. I know there are better monitors out there but I couldn’t pass up the deal on this one. $219.99 at Best Buy!

So, I spent half a day setting up the new monitor, cleaning up, moving things around and cleaning up the cable management.

You can check out all of the photos on flickr.

With the multiple monitors, Mac OS X, Ubuntu, Windows XP and being able to control it all via Synergy; I think I could have been considered for Lifehacker’s Coolest Workspace Contest.

Digital Content Interaction Becomes Reality With Microsoft Surface

Today Microsoft released Microsoft Suface. I saw this technology demonstrated by Jeff Han in September 2006 and since then I have wanted this technology.

While touch sensing is commonplace for single points of contact, multi-touch sensing enables a user to interact with a system with more than one finger at a time, as in chording and bi-manual operations. Such sensing devices are inherently also able to accommodate multiple users simultaneously, which is especially useful for larger interaction scenarios such as interactive walls and tabletops.

Give me this technology in a 42″ desktop surface running Mac OS X and I would be quite content (for a while).

Upstart Blogger Offering a Free iPod Shuffle!

Robert Ellis of Upstart Blogger is offering a free iPod Shuffle to individuals that refer traffic to his blog!

I decided I’d like to reward that, so I’m going to give some lucky person an iPod shuffle, just for the heck of it. Here’s how it works.

Mr. Ellis has gained a lot of traffic and fans through his WordPress and Pligg themes that he has made available to the public. If fact, in fact this site is currently running my modified version of Upstart Blogger Minim.

Robert is a great guy and I am willing to give him a link to his site; even if I don’t get the iPod. Robert if you read this, it doesn’t mean I want to be taken out of the running.

See the details.

Building Your Own DVR and Media Center Without the Cost of Vista

This past July, I rebuilt an older PC as a media center. The machine now resides in my entertainment center as an entertainment hub and file server, storing all of my music, videos and pictures.

My Media Center PC sports a P4 2.0 GHz processor, 1 G of RAM, 550 GB of storage, a Hauppauge TV tuner and a ATI All-In-Wonder 9600. It is currently running on Windows XP Media Center Edition. I must have done something right in building the machine; it’s been running well for the last 24 days without a reboot.

Media PC Uptime

I am quit happy with the machine right now, aside from the noise if nothing else is on. However, Lifehacker (one of my favorite reads) has posted an tour on rolling your own DVR and media server with MediaPortal.
