Ubuntu 7.10 Linux Desktop Release in Two Days

I like to play with Linux on my laptop. There is something more fun about it than Windows! I have downloaded and tried almost every distribution over the past 2 years. To date, Ubuntu has been to only one I have really stuck to using. I also use Ubuntu Server on an old desktop set up as a development LAMP server.

Canonical, the Ubuntu Linux commercial sponsor, is set to release version 7.10 Thursday - 10-18-2007.

Some of my favorite new features:

  • Support for multiple monitors
  • Compiz Fusion integration
  • Full read and write capability for all Windows partitions, including NTFS
  • Better wireless card support

Check out Desktop Linux’s article on a lot of Ubuntu’s new features.

Lifehacker also has a screenshot tour of the new version.

If you don’t want to wait until Thursday to upgrade from Ubuntu 7.04 now, you can upgrade to the latest release cadidate and then update to the final release on Thursday.

Here is a more detailed guide on updating to Ubuntu 7.10.

Impressive Copywriting and Innovation From IBM

Impressive Copywriting from IBM. An amazing invitation from IBM to its customers for Solutions Day 2006.

The invitation consists of three sheets of paper of different sizes, all of which can be read as a standalone letter in addition to being a part of a whole.

A very innovated approach to attempt to change the perception that IBM only caters to large clients.

The Hype Machine New Launch

A neat way to launch an app or a new version of one.

The brand new version of The Hype Machine is all ready to go and will automatically flip the switch when 10,000 people are watching!

Slows my old Gateway laptop down a little too much; very cool though.

WP Theme: IAMWW W2 - Discontinued Support and Bug Fix Download

I have decided to no longer support the IAMWW w2 WordPress theme. However, anyone that has already downloaded and installed w2, please feel free to contact me with any issues.

Although I am discounting support of the original w2, I have made an updated comments.php file available for download on the theme’s page. The updated file fixes issues with broken layouts on sites that require registration for commenting. This file is meant to overwrite the existing comments.php file in the IAMWW w2 theme folder.

Elgato EyeTV Hybrid

I just got an Elgato EyeTV Hybrid to go with my recently purchased Apple TV and I love it. Glenn Wolsey has posted his review of my new time saver.

I really like the fact that I can schedule recordings via the TitaTV website from anywhere.
