College Scholarships.org: Web Design Scholarship Contest

If any WordPress theme designers out there are not already exhausted from this past weekend. College Scholarships.org is holding their own Web Design Scholarship Contest.

The contest: a WordPress template design for the launch of their new site New Scholarships.org.

The prize: a $5,000 scholarship!

The rules:

  • U.S. citizen
  • Currently attending full-time in post-secondary education
  • If you win, you must be willing to allow us to list your name, picture, and website on their site

I will not be entering dues to the second requirement above. However, sounds like a good chance for some of the designers out there. College Scholarships.org has also rounded up a panel of distinguished and respected judges. You can find more details on the contest site.

Sandbox Design Competition Is Now Closed

Submissions are now closed for the Sandbox Design Competition and honestly I’m exhausted.

I didn’t sleep very well last night with thought of finishing my entry and other projects floating through my mind. However, the competition was a great learning experience for someone who only touched CSS for the first time 8 months ago. I have been working on my design for the competition in spurts for the last month.

The Sandbox Designs Competition for WordPress

The bad news, I have already found one stupid, rookie mistake I made. I can only replicate the issue in IE and Safari. So, it’s only 50% of a ridiculous screw up. I am not too pleased with the outcome, but I will chalk this one up to lack of knowledge and see where I need to improve.

The good news, the WordPress community will have a few more excellent themes to play with.

I have learned the Sandbox WordPress Theme is much more than just another theme. The Sandbox is an application in itself, similar to WordPress. The dynamically generated classes make the design so flexible that you can skin any part of it. Scott and Andy have created an amazing contribution to the WordPress community.

I will fix the mistake I mentioned above and release the Sandbox design in the next couple of days. I need to allow my eyes to adjust to the real-world for a little while now.

In the meantime, check out all of the participants, their sites and their amazing designs. I can’t wait to see the results. I am especially looking forward to see the designs from Robert and Ian.

Here’s a small screenshot of Moo-Point to hold you over until I post the download and demo.

Good Luck to everyone that entered.

Update: Robert has released Upstart Blogger Takimata. Upstart Blogger Takimata uses a layout and structure that is fresh. I haven’t seen anything like it. Check it out!

IAMWW W2 WordPress Theme Adoptions and Adaptations

With the releases of my WordPress themes IAMWW w2 and IAMWW w2 DnD, I wanted to showcase some of the sites that have adopted, adapted or modified my theme for use on their site.

Some of these WordPress users have really made the w2 theme their own with changes throughout their sites.

I apologize if I have left anyone using either derivative of the IAMWW w2 theme out of this post. Please let me know if you are using either of the themes. I would like to see the adaptations and modifications you are running on your site.

New Wordpress Theme Release: IAMWW W2 DnD

I am proud to announce the release of a new WordPress theme, IAMWW w2 DnD. DnD is very similar to the original IAMWW w2. However, the theme is much easier to install and no longer requires specific plugins.

This theme was built for users that do not know how or want to deal with editing PHP or installing and configuring additional plugins. This will also allow me to submit the theme to various showcases and galleries.

The full Prototype and Script.aculo.us JavaScript libraries are no longer used. The sliding drawer for displaying categories is still present. It now runs on just a few lines of JavaScript and should allow sites to load much faster.

Head over to the theme’s page to see a preview and download.
